De Jong responds to Moyale Barracks Coach’s remarks

Mzuzu, August 3, Mana: Silver Strikers Coach, Peter de Jong has replied to remarks made by Moyale Barracks Coach, Nicholas Mhango who called him stupid for labeling Mzuzu stadium as a poor pitch.

He made the remarks last week after DeJong said that his team lost the FDH Cup match against Moyale Barracks because they failed to play good football due to the stadium’s bumpy surface.

In an interview Wednesday at the end of the last match of their first round TNM Super League against Moyale Barracks which ended in a barren draw at Mzuzu Stadium, de Jong repeated that the stadium is terrible.

"It is difficult to play here because this pitch is not good. Off course my colleague said that I am a stupid guy for expressing my concern over the bad condition of the pitch, yet I have coached in over 40 countries around the world so who is stupid here?

My opinion is that proffessional football which is supposed to be offensive should not be played on pitches like this one, but still we played a good game today only that luck was not our side as we hit the post twice," De Jong said.

Silver Strikers played the game without Flames defender, Nickson Mwase who is on suspension, Chimwemwe Idana who did not travel with the squad for unknown reasons with Stain Davie their marksman who joined the match from the bench.

Assistant Coach for Moyale Barracks, Victor Chingoka said their side struggled in the first round and they are looking to boost their attack by bringing in two new strikers.

Silver Strikers have finished the first round on position two with 29 points while Moyale have wrapped up on position nine with 18 points.
