Dowa, November 4, 2017: Dowa District Council has lined up a number of development projects which it expects to implement to improve the district’s outlook as well as its service delivery.

Among the projects in the pipeline are construction of Mponela Community Hospital, New Dowa District Hospital, Dowa Boma-Chezi road and Nambuma Rural growth Centre, among others.

Making presentations during the full council meeting on Thursday, Councilors from different Wards who read the reports from various government Sectors in the district, highlighted that plans for the construction of Mponela Community Hospital were at an advanced stage  and a report on compensation of landowners on where the hospital will stand was ready.

According to the presentations, paperwork for construction of the Hospital was done and Minister of Health and his officials had already inspected the site.

District Health Officer for Dowa, Dr. Peter Makoza, in response to a question on whether the Mponela Community Hospital project will see the right of the day this time around, assured the meeting that there was seriousness on the part of government for the construction to start.

He said all paper work as demanded by ministry officials was done and that construction works would start in December,2017.

On construction of New Dowa District Hospital, Makoza said a 51 hectare land had been identified near Red Cross offices where the new hospital will stand.

He said funds for the feasibility studies were already in this year’s budget and mapping was already done and sent to the headquarters.

The meeting was informed on the development works for Nambuma Rural Growth Centre which will commence soon and that construction of the Boma-Chezi road will be underway since funds are available and the road has already been graded.

According to the report, so far advertisements as well as bidding processes were already done in newspapers and construction will start soon after evaluation is done and a contractor identified.
