Dedza man kills own wife

Dedza, March 25, 2020: A 40 year-old man in Dedza is at large after killing his wife in a fit due to jealous. 

According to Dedza Deputy Police Publicist Sergeant Cassim Manda, the incident occurred between the night of Sunday and Monday at Lumwira Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Kasumbu in the district.

“Simthawika Sibombe allegedly hacked to death his wife, Sipeniya David, 35 following disagreements which had been rocking their family for a long time.

On Sunday around 4 pm, the wife set off to see her sister who was admitted at Kanyama Mission Health Centre which is within the area. Her husband who was away at the time emerged from a bush near a graveyard and attacked her with a panga knife, killing her on the spot,” he said.

Manda said when her body was taken to Dedza District Hospital, postmortem results showed the death was due to head injuries and had sustained cuts on her hands.

Police officers have since launched a manhunt for the husband who is expected to answer to a case of murder, which is contrary to section 209 of the Penal code.

The two are survived by two children.
