Karonga, August 5, 2019: Chaminade Secondary School alumni on Saturday donated twenty-eight desks worth K3 million to the school as a way of easing challenges faced by learners.

Rumphi District Commissioner, Fred Movete, who is one of the alumni, said most structures at the school needed renovation.

“Some of our colleagues came here (Karonga) last year. They went around the school and observed that a lot of facilities need maintenance. This is a small donation, there is need for us to do more,” he said.

He urged well-wishers to join hands with the alumni towards the renovation and replacement of old facilities.

“My message to fellow alumni is that let us continue assisting our former school. I am told that the school has triple streams now, so that means the facilities that the school used to have are no longer adequate,” he said.

Chaminade Secondary School Head teacher, Island Mtambo, thanked the alumni for the donation.

He said despite producing good results, the school had dilapidated infrastructure, some of them constructed in early 1960s.

“On our own, we are trying to renovate the infrastructure using school fund, but it is not enough.
“We are, therefore, appealing to well-wishers to assist us in renovating some structures for our students,” he said.

Chaminade Secondary School was opened by Marianist Brothers in 1962 and since then, the school has been expanding and current intake is 120 students.

Last year, the school produced highest number of students in Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) across the country most of whom scored seven points.
