In a press release issued on Monday, the CPD focuses at improving teachers’ pedagogy and technical skills with the overall objective of enhancing professionalism and skills of technical subject specialists.

According to the press release, this would help teachers to ably teach students the skills and knowledge that are relevant for self-development and growth using newly acquired modern training equipment.

“Through the Improving Secondary Education in Malawi (ISEM) Project, the ministry has contracted the Malawi Polytechnic to provide CPD programme for teachers from 12 secondary schools that have technical wings offering Technical Drawing, Wood Work and Metal Work,” reads the statement in part.

The statement further indicates that the first training started on February 18, 2019 with 40 teachers who are expected to be equipped with the skills to meet the dynamic needs of students and schools which are driven by changes in society and expectations of community and employers.

“Particular attention will be given to teachers’ acquisition of knowledge and student management skills,” it further reads.

“Teachers will also be given the opportunity to develop effective leadership skills and embrace new technologies relevant to education and training to the industry,” says the press statement.
