Mangochi, December 14, 2018: Mangochi Community Technical College (MCTC) on Wednesday interviewed about 600 youth across the district for its third intake.

District Commissioner (DC) for Mangochi, Rev. Moses Chimphepo and MCTC Principal, Mbasa  Mwawembe, have described the recruitment interviews as the best ever due to the decentralized approach that was employed.

Chimphepo said following complaints that came with the previous two intakes where the interviews were centralized at the Boma, the council decided to interview the potential youth right in their locations.

“The Council made sure that resources are available to allow the interviews to be conducted at Teachers’ Development Centres in all Traditional Authorities (TAs) across the district,” he explained, adding that, “By doing so, we have reached out to all potential youth right in their locations; be it Makanjira, Chilipa, Katuli and all distant places.”

On the other hand, MCTC Principal hailed Mangochi District Council and the District’s Labour Office for supporting the entire exercise with vehicles and human resources.

Mwawembe said this year’s recruitment interview had given equal opportunity to most youth who could not have made it to the Boma for the interviews due to distance.

“The interviews have been very thorough and well administered,” the principal noted adding that, “About 600 candidates have been interviewed for various vocational courses and out of these we are going to recruit 160 youth for the next year session.”

He added that the application forms were made available in time in all the TDCs and that the interviews were evenly advertised through Primary Education Advisors (PEAs), chiefs, councilors and community radios.

Names of successful youth will be released and made public on December 17, 2018, and the next session of classes commences on January 7, 2019, according to the Principal.

Mangochi District Labour Officer, Ernest Titheranji expressed satisfaction with how the whole process has been conducted and he hoped that the deserving youths would make it to the community college.

MCTC offers eight occupational courses which include Automobile Mechanics and Associated Works (AMM), Brick Laying (BRL), Electrical Installation and Electronics (EIE), Fabrication and Welding (F&W), Information and Communication Technology, Carpentry and Joinery (C&J) and Plumbing.
