Lilongwe, October 28, 2019: Lions Club District 412B (Malawi and Mozambique) Lake Cruise fundraising for Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) Paediatric Ward has raised funds totalling over K2 million.

The cruise was held from October 26 to 27 and attracted over 120 people from across the country.
The participants boarded Chilembwe vessel and sailed from Monkey Bay to Cape Maclear via Salima.

Speaking with Malawi News Agency (MANA) Lions Club District 412B fundraising Chairperson, Stewart Munthali described this year’s cruise as successful after beating the K2 million target.

“The feedback from our esteemed patrons proves that we can come together and have a lot of fun while supporting a good cause.
“This also shows people are willing to support children at KCH who lack basic necessities and we are happy with the response that we had so far,” said Munthali.

The cruise was held under the theme ‘Helping little ones fight big battles’.

District Governor 412B (Malawi and Mozambique), Abraham George said the funds raised during the cruise will be used to support patients that suffer from childhood cancer at Kamuzu Central Hospital.

He said some of the money will be used to buy nutritious food for the Paediatric Ward as well as medicines.

“Lions will continue to find innovative ways to involve the wider society in supporting those in need,” he said.
In last year’s cruise, the club raised K1.2 million for KCH Children’s Ward.

The cruise took the patrons on a tourist trail at Lake Malawi on the first day (Saturday) and on Sunday morning; the cruise was dedicated to visiting tourist attractions around Lake Malawi National Park.
