Blantyre, April 29, 2019: Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) on Saturday launched the long- awaited Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) expo at trade fair ground in Blantyre.

Regarding the function as stepping stone to the next level of business, a number of SMEs showed up at the expo and displayed their products for potential partners and customers.

The expo is also expected to assist small businesses to find linkages that would enhance their businesses in line with the expo’s theme ‘SMEs growth through business linkages’.

MCCCI President, Prince Kapondamgaga, said his institution saw the need of introducing the expo to ease challenges the SMEs face in trying to grow in the business sector.

“Quite a number of them find challenges with access to finance and technology. The idea of expo, a platform for SMEs, is to increase their visibility to other big businesses which they can partner with,” said Kapondamgaga.

He added, “We have deliberately put an inclusion of the SME so as to identify them in a special way and give them capacity building in order to promote the business sector in the country.”

Paramount Holdings Ltd is one of the SMEs taking part in the expo. According to its Southern Region Manager, Edwards Kambaje, the expo is an interesting and helpful initiative for SMEs in the country.

“We are extremely excited to participate in this expo. We expect that we will interact with a cross section of business players and our customers one-on-one,” said Kambaje.

Some of the SMEs present at the expo include Blue Zone, Malasha Briquettes, United General Insurance Company and Hartfield Investment, Finca and NBS Bank.

African Institute of Corporate Citizenship (AICC), which also won the award of best SME promoter during the launch, has sponsored the expo.
