Red Lions consolidate quest to stay up

Lilongwe, 25 November, 2017: Red Lions Saturday consolidated their quest to remain in top flight league after beating Blue Eagles 2-1 in the second round of TNM Super League played at  Nankhaka ground in Area 30,  Lilongwe. 

Moses Nankumba's goal in the 92nd minute enabled Red Lions to collect maximum at the hands of Area 30 cops. 
Reds have recorded a second win in a row after they beat relegation candidate Wizards 2-0 last weekend. 
With the win Zomba based team has moved to 11th position from 13 with 30 points from 26 games while Blue Eagles remains fifth with 41 points from 27 games.
The battle for third spot for the relegation envoy now rest between  Master Security and Wizards.
Ten minutes into the game Blue Eagles nearly opened the score sheet through John Malidadi Jnr but his attempt at goal was saved by Reds Keeper, Clement Mlomba. 
Red Lions captain, Chikoti Chirwa had his long range drive parried by Eagles goalie,  John Soko for a corner kick in the 22nd minute. 
A resultant corner kick from Kumbukani Mwambeni was headed in by Chimwemwe Chidati beating Eagles keeper from close range. 
Mwambeni could have stretched Red Lions lead in the 25th minute when he connected Mathews Simbeya's cross.
Eagles Captain Micium Mhone levelled the scores in at dot of half time when he slotted home Malidadi's cross. 
The two teams went to break equal but Reds players were restrained when they mobbed referee Chidziwitso Simbi  for letting Eagles goal stood as they claimed it was scored from offside position. 
The half saw Mhone twice in the 50th and 53rd minute coming closer from scoring but his powerful deliveries went wide and was parried by Reds goalie,  Mlomba. 
Reds introduced Loti Chawinga for Mc Peter Makwale in the 55th minute and Eagles brought in Chisomo Chilasa for Stuart Mbunge. 
In the 67th minute Reds central defender, Peason Panje cleared the ball when Gilbert Chirwa had broke through but his effort made him got injured was replaced by James Chirwa. 
Mhone was on the limelight on the 71st minute when his goal bound shot was well tamed by goalie Mlomba.
14 minutes to time, Eagles throw the fresh legs of goal poacher, Mphatso Phillimon for Malidadi while Reds rested Mwambeni for Boniface Kaulesi. 
Red Lions come out of the wilderness in the 92nd minute when Chikoti Chirwa long drive was parried by Keeper Soko before Nankumba squeezed the rebound home to claim the winner. 
"We are happy with the win although the referees were not on our side. They gave an offside goal to Blue Eagles which was very unfair to us," Red Lions Team Manager Alexander Saka lamented. 
He said with the win his team is no longer talking of relegation but they are now aiming at finishing top eight. 
Blue Eagles Assistant coach, Wilson Chidati admitted that Red Lions played an attacking game from the on slot. 
" All is not lost and we have to go back and do one or two things. We are targeting to finish in top three this season," he boasted.
