Blantyre, March 13, 2019: Member of Parliament (MP) for Blantyre North East, Cecelia Chazama Thursday donated sports uniform to 27 primary schools in her constituency.

She donated netball and football, exercise books, pens and plain papers to be used by teachers.

Speaking at Lunzu primary ground, Chazama said sports is one of her priority areas as among others, it offers opportunities for the youth to develop physically as well as mentally.

She said for many years, schools in her area had no sporting attire a situation the Parliamentarian described as worrisome.

Chazama who introduced a football and netball league last year said she was concerned to see pupils playing games without uniform.

“After I had introduced the league, I thought of buying the uniforms as part of promoting the sports and league,” she noted.

Primary Education Advisor (PEA) for Lirangwe Zone, Kingsley Kubwalo commended Chazama for supporting schools with the uniform, books and pens.

He said a lot of schools in the district were lacking a number of things and described the MP’s support as timely.

“We are sure that both teachers and pupils are motivated and sports in the area will not be the same,” Kubwalo added.

A pupil from Mbira School, Blandina Niclosi said most of the times, pupils played using their clothes and it was difficult to identify a team mate in that mixed dressing.

“This is a great move towards sports development,” she said.
