Thyolo, August 3, 2019: Sisters of Charity of the Catholic Church Thursday handed over a school block and four toilets worth K13.5 million to Mabuwa Primary School in Konzalendo Zone in the area of Traditional Authority Mbawela in Thyolo District.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Sister Freda a Elimuan from Nigeria said the group was concerned with condition of school infrastructure in some parts of the district hence the initiative.

Sister Freda said it was worrisome to see children leaning in substandard structures that were not conducive for learning.

“Our aim is to ensure that life is enjoyed to its full capacity. So it’s the same with children in schools. They should learn under better environment,” she said.

Sister Freda then urged parents and community leaders to own the block by taking care of it and allowing the children to make use of it for their benefit.

Thyolo District Education Mananjer (DEM) Godfrey Kubwetse thanked the Sisters of Charity for promoting education in the district.
Kubwetse said the donation had come at the right time when most schools had shortage of blocks as compared to their enrolment.

“This is a commendable job from the sisters. The blocks shall greatly help the children in their learning,” he said.

The manager, however, expressed concern over reluctance of parents to contribute materials like sand for the project, which delayed its completion.

Apart from Mabuwa primary school, the Sisters of Charity have also built other blocks at Milole, Kozalendo and Mitembo primary schools.
