Mulanje, December 24, 2018. Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Kondwani Nankhumwa has been declared the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Mulanje Central Constituency torch bearer after winning the party’s primary elections unopposed on Saturday.

Speaking to Malawi News Agency (MANA) at Chisitu Primary Ground in the district, presiding officer of the elections, Dr Hetherwick Ntaba said people of Mulanje Central have chosen Nankhumwa to continue with the development activities he is implementing in the area.

Ntaba said the elections, which had a category of Member of Parliament and ward councilors, were free and fair since people were voting at an open ground and that members were selecting people to count votes for them.

“As DPP, we are happy that Mulanje Central Member of Parliament and DPP Southern Region President will represent the people and we want to encourage the people to vote for DPP in the next elections,” Ntaba said.

Member of Parliament for the area, Kondwani Nankhumwa said he was happy that the people of Mulanje Central had trusted him to continue the developments he has been implementing in the area under the DPP.

He further urged people to vote for President Peter Mutharika in order to continue with the development activities the president and the party are implementing in all the constituencies in the country.

“Today I am very happy that the people of Mulanje Central have trusted me again. I want to encourage them to also vote for me and the president during the May, 2019 elections,” Nankhumwa said.

Isaac Brazzio, who won on ward councilor position with 685 votes, will represent Chisitu Ward and Thokozani Namoyo, who won with 965 votes, will represent Mtenjera Ward during the 2019 tripartite elections on DPP ticket.
