Mzuzu, May 12, 2018: All Creatures Animal Clinic in Mzuzu City has embarked on a three-day free sterilization exercise for dogs in Luwinga Township in a bid to help reduce population of stray dogs in the city.

The exercise, which runs from Friday to Sunday at St Augustine Catholic Parish hall targets 300 dogs within the area.

“We have a team of doctors from outside the country to supplement our doctors for the surgeries.

“We believe that this exercise will help control unnecessary breeding of dogs in the city,” said Richard Suna, All Creatures Animal Welfare Trust country director.

Mzuzu Agriculture Development Division Program Manager, Wellington Phewa hailed the trust for the sterilization exercise.

“Initially, we used to gun down stray dogs in the city; but when All Creatures came in, they discouraged us saying it was inhumane.

“They volunteered to help control dog population through sterilization which is safer and more humane,” he said.

He added that the trust has since promised to conduct sterilization exercises annually through the Mzuzu Clinic.

All Creatures Animal Welfare Trust champions kind treatment of animals and has clinics in Mzuzu and Lilongwe cities.
