Lilongwe, October 27, 2017: The Ministry of Health on Friday bid farewell to one of its employees Patrick Alfred Mphaya who worked in the ministry for over 38 years.

Speaking in an interview with the Malawi News Agency (Mana), Minister of Health Atupele Muluzi

said it was important for the ministry to recognise excellent work that some of the frontline staffs are doing in government.

“We honour and recognise the contribution of Mr. Mphaya to the ministry and the country as a whole. We wish him and his family well,” Muluzi said.

He said working in the health service requires dedication and compassion and that is what Mphaya demonstrated in his service to the nation.

“Employees like you are the epitome of professionalism. Thank you for bringing your best to work every single day,” said Muluzi.

Muluzi expressed gratitude to the ministry’s staff for laying this carpet of honour to Mphaya and implored the retiree to become ambassador of health wherever he goes.

In his remarks, Mphaya thanked the ministry for the support rendered to him during his time of service.

He asked the minister and the rest of the officials in the ministry to do the same when other staff members will be going for retirement.

“I am leaving some friends here who will also retire soon. Take care of them so that their last days of service are joyful and that they perform their duties well,” Mphaya said.

Patrick Alfred Mphaya joined the Ministry of Health in 1978 at the age of 19 years as a messenger. He was later promoted to the head messenger.

In 1980’s he was also promoted as a PBX operator (Post Box Exchange Operator).
