Lilongwe, May 3, 2017: Government has asked members of staff to be dedicated and work professionally in the provision of health services to people.

The Minister of Health Dr. Peter Kumpalume made the call on Tuesday at Area 25 health Centre during a ground breaking ceremony for the construction of an operating theatre that has been funded by Baylor International Pediatric Aids Initiative.

He said the Operating Theatre that will be constructed at the health center would ease congestion at Kamuzu Central and Bwaila hospitals which have been serving as referral health facilities for over 4000 people around the area.

Kumpalume said construction of an operating theater at the health center would make a difference because people from the area will be accessing the services on time without referring them to Kamuzu Central Hospital.

The Minister asked members of staff at the health center to provide free services to people and avoid making charges for the provision of health services to patients.

“I would like to urge you to respond quickly once you receive a case to serve the life of patients,” Kumpalume said.

He thanked Baylor International for providing financial assistance to the Ministry of Health towards construction of an operating theater.

The Vice President of Baylor International Pediatric Aids Initiative Dr. Jeffrey Wilkinson said his organisation is committed to providing support in the Health Sector as one way of improving delivery of health services.

He disclosed that Baylor has provided over 3 million dollars towards the construction of an operating theater.

The operating theater is expected to be operational by November this year.
