MACHINGA, January 12, 2018: Police in Machinga have arrested a 65-year-old man for allegedly abducting and defiling a 9 year old girl.

Machinga Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Constable Davie Sulumbu Thursday confirmed the arrest of Daudi Luwishi Sabiti who hails from the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Kapoloma in the district.

Sulumbu said on January 8 this year (2018), the victim went out to play with her friends but she did not report back till the following day when she appeared carrying a new dress and a K100 note.

“When her mother, Marrium Charles, asked her where she had been to, the girl revealed that Sabiti took her and they bordered a motor vehicle to unknown destination where they spent a night and the suspect defiled her,” he said.

He said the matter was reported to Nselema police and the victim was granted medical form for examination and treatment.

“Examination at Nyambi heath center proved that the victim was indeed defiled,” Constable Sulumba said.

Sulumbu said the suspect is currently in custody and he would answer charges of abduction and defilement of under aged girl which is contrary to section 78 of child care, protection and justice act and 138 of the penal code respectively.

Meanwhile, Machinga police is advising the community to take proper care of girl children to avoid such incidences.
