BLANTYRE, January 03, 2017: Mwanza Police Station in 2017 registered 238 criminal cases which translates to a 33 percent reduction from the 352 cases registered in the year 2016.

Mwanza Police Public Relations Officer, Edwin Kaunda said in an interview on Tuesday the reduction has been as a result of several factors such as the emphasis on night patrols and good relationship between the police and the general public which resulted in efficient service delivery.

“People were able to give tips to police on anything they suspected to be awful in their communities as such the police were able to act accordingly and timely to prevent crime,” explained Kaunda.

The Mwanza Police Spokesperson added that the success story was realized due to the plenty support the police received from traditional leaders as well as the office of the District Commissioner.

“The rendered support gave the police some encouragement to work harder in the year 2017 hence the crime reduction,” added Kaunda.

While on the same positive note, Mwanza Police is asking the general public in Mwanza to continue working closely with them in order to realize more success in the year 2018.
