Mzuzu, November 8, 2017: Chibanja Ward Councilor in Mzuzu City, Charles Mlogera Saturday held a wedding anniversary whose proceeds amounting to K500, 000 will go to vulnerable groups of people in the city.

The wedding ceremony was organized through St John of God’s Self Help Groups Project which seeks to achieve meaningful women empowerment.

The project supported the wedding anniversary in order to help the Self Help Group Clusters have funds when the organisation would be exiting next month.

Speaking in an interview, Councilor Mlogera said the money and all other material gifts would not only benefit women but also other vulnerable groups of people.

“There are some child-headed families and the elderly who are also expected to benefit from the proceeds as they also encounter various challenges in order to make ends meet,” said Mlogera who is commemorating 11 years in marriage with his wife Memory.

Project Officer for Self Help Group Project at St John of God, Francisco Vitsitsi disclosed that St John of God would be handing over the project to the groups in the communities.

“Apart from assisting the vulnerable groups, money collected will also help as starter pack when St John of God hands over the project in December,” Vitsitsi said.
