Mzimba, March 8: A Man identified as Augustine Mahima, 27, a teacher at Mkonje Primary School in Mzimba District was found hanging dead in his house in the early hours of Wednesday.

Mzimba Police Officer In-charge, Joseph Chambuluka confirmed the incident to Malawi News Agency, saying according to police investigations, the deceased went to hospital on March 5, 2013 after being sick for several days.

While at the hospital, he was tested for HIV and results showed he was positive.

The Officer In-charge said this did not go well with the deceased, hence ended up hanging himself in his house. The postmortem conducted at Mzimba District Hospital also showed he had died due to suffocation.

The police suspected no foul play on the development.

In a related development, another man identified as Mackson Ngulube, 66 was also found hanging dead in a nearby bush close to his home at William Ngwenya Village in the district.

Police said the incident occurred after Ngulube went missing following a quarrel with his wife. Samuel Chipeta from the area reported the matter to police early morning Wednesday.

“I, therefore, would like to advise the general public to utilize the Victim Support Units spread across the district to seek assistance in case of quarrels or other dissatisfactions, unlike rushing to hang themselves which is now rampant in the district,” said Chambuluka.

He further said police in the district are conducting sensitization meetings in communities to help with solutions regarding such matters.

The deceased teacher, Augustine Mahima, was from Kapokoro Village in the area of Paramount Chief M’mbelwa in the district while Mackson Ngulube hailed from William Ngwenya Village in the same district.
