EFT award best girl pupils in Karonga

Karonga, July 30, 2019: A Local Non-Governmental Organization, Education Funding Trust (EFT) Friday awarded best performing girl pupils at St. Mary’s girls primary school in Karonga with an aim to improve quality education,.

Founder of the Organization, Taonga Tembo said they mainly focused on end of year examination to encourage pupils to work extra hard in classes.

“We have awarded 50 school girls from standard 5 to 7 who were on position 1 to 5 with various learning materials such as pens and notebooks among others worth K165, 000,” he said.

Tembo said that the organization have been engaged in various activities including the purchasing of school uniforms to pupils as well as motivation talks to raise the quality of education in Karonga and the nation at large.

According to Tembo, EFT is planning to purchase sanitary materials for girls who cannot afford in secondary schools, pay school fees for them as well as mobilize the community through chiefs to help reduce the school dropout rate in Karonga.

A Standard 7 pupil at the school, Doreen Phiri thanked the organization saying the award would encourage them to work hard in the next academic year.

“This has motivated us a lot that we are eager to work more hard next term so that we can do well than this term and it will help to encourage more children to come to school knowing that if they do well they will receive an award,” she said.

St. Mary’s Girls Primary School Head Teacher, Rodney Chitete advise the awardee to continue working hard in class so that they can achieve their goals in live.

“Pupils should know that though government, civil society and other donors can help them, they need to put in place the use of small help they get to excel in their academics,” he said.

Chitete asked the public and well-wishers to work together with EFT so that many girls could be able to access quality education and rescue them from early marriages.

EFT is based in Karonga was founded in 2017 by a group patriotic of youths with the main aim of improving the quality of education in the country.
