MEJN commits to promote MGDS III

Lilongwe, March 25, 2019: Malawi Economic Justice Network (MEJN) says is committed to promoting Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS) III, in a bid to enhance and achieve the development goals of the country.

MEJN Board Member, Joanna Nkhoma made the remarks on Thursday in Lilongwe during the launch of MEJN’s new project dubbed, ‘Enhancing Social Accountability for Better Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS) III Development Results and Outcomes’ which is being funded by IM Swedish Development partner.

She said that, the project has been launched to empower the public to understand the agenda and objectives of MGDS III.

“With the new project, we want to take MGDS III to the people so that they should know its contents and get empowered, after being empowered we are sure that, they will be able to claim or demand from their duty bearers on how projects are taking place in their communities,” Nkhoma said.

She added that MEJN’s main focus is on promotion of MGDS III saying that it is key agenda for enhancing sustainable development of the country.

MGDS III was launched in 2018 by President Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika under the theme ‘Building a Productive, Competitive and Resilient Nation’.

Through the strategy, the President emphasized the need to increase energy generation as well as improving transport and ICT infrastructure.

MEJN Board Member is optimistic that, MEJN’s new project would bring positive impact towards promoting the objectives of MGDS III in the country.

“Through MEJN’s new project, I hope the objectives of MGDS III will be achieved, and this will result in better service delivery as well as promotion of economic growth of the country,” she said.

Economist under the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Chippo Masina commended MEJN for their new project saying that, the project is in line with what the Government of Malawi is doing towards improving the development of the country.

“As government we have welcomed MEJN’s new project, since it is supporting our initiatives which we are doing to ensure that, Malawi Growth Development Strategies have been successfully implemented,” he said.
