Blantyre, March 6, 2019: Malawi Confederations of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) has organized a farmers market from March 2, 2019 at the Trade Fair grounds in Blantyre.

Speaking in an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana), MCCCI Communications Manager, Millie Kasunda said this will be the second farmers market following the first one which was introduced last year, 2019.

“The farmers market was introduced because we wanted to give visibility to small businesses. This does not mean we are targeting farmers only, but rather all people involved with small businesses,” said Kasunda.

Kasunda said the farmers market is a good platform for the business community to meet with their customers and potential partners who may eventually buy their products in bulk.

“We hope business of the people involved in this farmers market will improve including increasing their income,” she added.

Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Public Relations Officer, Hamilton Chimala commended MCCCI for the initiative, noting that the ministry would continue encouraging farmers to take advantage of such interactions considering that they offer an opportunity to link up with producers and buyers.

“Farmers learn from others and get first-hand market expectations on produce on top of sealing deals. We therefore, encourage farmers to work as production units to leverage their competitiveness and get best deals,” said Chimala.
