MACRA to embark on second phase for physical and postcode addressing

Blantyre, December 5: Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) will next month embark on second phase of numbering the houses as well as naming the streets and roads within Blantyre City under physical addressing and post code project.

MACRA Communications Officer, Clara Mwafulirwa disclosed this Tuesday in Blantyre in a questionnaire response to Malawi News Agency (Mana).

She explained currently MACRA is finalizing all the areas targeted in the first phase which are Namiwawa, Chinyonga, Makata industrial site, Ndirande Safalao, and Somola Village in Lirangwe.

“Basically, what we have done so far is numbering the houses and will soon start naming the streets and roads within the pilot jurisdiction,” Communications officer echoed.

Mwafulirwa said plans are at advanced stage to expand the pilot boundaries in Ndirande and other areas by January, 20l8.

Early this year, MACRA announced to carry out the similar project to other cities of the country once fully implemented in Blantyre.

The pilot phase for the national address and post code project started in December 20l6.

It is expected that the project would enhance service delivery in the posts and courier industry once become fully operational.
